The Power of Informational Interviews
The Power of Informational Interviews I did a course on Informational Interviews because I believe it is a mega-powerful tactic for networking. When I speak I tell the audience if I started a job search today, 90% of my time would be spent on informational interviews. Thats a strong, and true, statement. Informational Interviews are for more than just job seekers, thats for sure. Heres the link to the PS course: http://www.pluralsight.com/courses/informational-interviews Heres an article from executive career coach Martin Buckland about informational interviews. Read his article, then check out my course for easy how-tos. https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/how-take-advantage-informational-interviews-martin-buckland Not a Pluralsight member? No problem! Writing Goal on Resume
Writing Goal on ResumeWriting a goal on resume is a requirement for the people in any field. It means that they are capable enough to do the tasks that are asked by the employers. This is the same idea that someone who is looking for a job will tell you about. When a person is asked to write a goal on resume, he or she will firstly have to create a purpose for writing the goal. This should be explained in a short and simple manner so that the reader will know what he/she is trying to achieve. For example, he/she should tell the reader what the goal is so that he/she would get an idea about the job that he/she is applying for.As a matter of fact, a written goal can include the following: objective, the specific tasks that need to be accomplished, time frame or agenda for completing the goal, the reason why he/she wants to accomplish the task or goal, and other thoughts that the person should have. The next step is to make sure that the purpose of writing the goal on resume is really th e same as what the person wanted to say in the resume. Here, you will see how to write a goal on resume.- First, put the goal in a proper sentence. If you are writing a goal on resume, make sure that the sentence should begin with the following words: 'I 'me' instead of 'to 'with'. You will find that this is the most important part. To write the proper sentence, you should first explain to the reader what you want to achieve.- Next, you can add the specific task that you want to complete or should be completed. For example, you should mention something like 'write a book review 'find out why the class does not react to the assignment 'write three new drafts of my current essay', etc.- The reason that you are looking for a job is something that you should tell to the reader. You should also add the time frame in which you are seeking for a job.- In addition, if you are a new graduate, you can tell the reader about your vision in your work history. This is very important so that the r eader will have an idea about your previous experience.Writing a goal on resume is not that easy. But with patience and determination, you will be able to write the proper goal. This will help you achieve your desired aim in the shortest time possible.

Think about whether it is the right or wrong time to leave your job.Hereâs how you can tell the difference.Right Time: You Are on the Edge of Nervous BreakdownWrong Time: You Feel Like You Just Need to ChangeIt is the right time to leave your job if the stress of it has gotten so bad that it affects your mental health. The job sounded great and motivated you, at first. But then you find one day the job is so stressful it is taking a physical and mental toll on you. Donât put your health at risk. Itâs not worth it.It is the wrong time to quit if you feel like you just need a change. You can be bored that day for some reason or maybe you just need to take on new tasks at work. Stay paid as you discover the reason for wanting to leave your job. You can get paid while making the change. Interviewing costs money. You will need it.Right Time: The Long-Term Results Are Proven to Be NegativeWrong Time: The Short Term Job Is Not What You ExpectedThe right time is if you have been with a company long enough and can prove the game does not end well for you. That does take some learning and understanding of the job to see if it is aligned with your career goals. If you know it is not, then that is your reason to leave your job.The wrong time to leave your job is when you find out your job involves things you did not expect. There may be some short term frustrations on the job. No one knows everything about a job before they accept it. You have to give yourself time to discover if what you did not expect is actually better for your career.Right Time: You Have Done All You Can Do for a CompanyWrong Time: There Is More to Be Done but YouDonât Feel ReadyThe right time to leave your job is when yo u feel you are at the red carpet treatmentstage of your job. There is nothing more to do, but smile and look pretty. You are no longer being challenged. How do you know you are not ready? Working through challenges is one of the most self-rewarding experiences in life. Stick the job out and do what you can, but do not quit and be seen as someone who walks away from challenges.Right Time: You Have Been Saving up Money and NetworkingWrong Time: You Want to Wing It Because You Hate Your JobThe right time to leave is after you have done preparation for the downtime that comes with looking for work. Your networking and savings will give you the momentum to find new work quickly. The wrong time to quit your job is when you are thinking that all will be ok if you just wing it. The big difference between the two is, you either h ave a plan or you donât. People who wing itquit without a plan, then go on job interviews and come across as desperate. Unfortunately, desperate people rarely get hired, or in your case, saved from your bad idea to wing it.Ultimately, at some point in your career, you will have a reason for leaving your job. Making sure your timing is right will leave you with a career of positive business relationships and stress-free career.

Why hunting for a great job hurts your career
Why hunting for a great job hurts your career One of the hardest things about being unemployed is worrying that you will not end up in a good job. People want to be picky, but thats a mistake. You should take any job. It really doesnt matter. Youre better off taking any job and then start trading up. Heres why: 1) Structure leads to achievement People who add structure to their day are more likely to get other stuff done. Theres a ripple effect. This is probably why most highly successful people are early risers. Its not that you cant be a night owl to be successful. Its that if you start your day with structure, you are more able to reach a wide range of goals. Happiness is about structure and self-discipline, not a good job. 2) You dont need time to job-hunt. Often, people think they need an open day to job hunt. That doesnt make sense. Job-hunting does not take all day. You could think of job-hunting as something we do nonstop which means you can do it when you have a job. You can also think of job-hunting as doing the difficult work of connecting with people and looking for an opening in your network, and thats certainly not something you can do all day. Its too hard. So a bad job does not interfere with a good job hunt. (And if you are wondering if you know how to run a good job hunt, take this test.) 3) Telling yourself you can do anything is paralyzing If you tell yourself the world is at your fingertips and you must get a good job, you end up not taking anything. Sheena Iyengar, professor at Columbia University who studies how people make choices, says, When there are too many choices the process can be confusing and frustrating, and instead of being overwhelmed by choice we become afraid. Choice turns into not opening opportunities but offering constraints. Because of this human trait, its important just to take action see whats in front of you and make a choice, even if you think there are many better choices there. A job is not marriage. It might not even be a long-term relationship. And thats okay. 4) Picking jobs is a lot of luck You know the saying that lucky people create their own luck? For the unemployed, that means taking almost any job. People get lucky at work someone mentors them, a big project lands in your lap, you catch a huge error and save a lot of money. But no one gets lucky in a job without actually being in a job. Also, Iyengar points out the inherent struggle of deciding between jobs: There are many things factors that are simply unknown. We usually have no idea, for instance, about the things that really make or break a job like if you will get good training on the job, or if the job description will even turn out to be true. 5) A job does not define you You are not going to find happiness from your job that comes from personal relationships. Most importantly, a lot of people get paralyzed while they are unemployed because they feel like they are not living up to their potential. But Ive got news for you: Living up to your potential is BS. What does that mean, really? I think it means impressing your friends, or, worse, your parents, and you have better things to aim for in life than that. The good news is that when youre unemployed you are at an inflection point. Something new has to happen in order for you to move you to your next step in your life. And thats always exciting, even if it takes a long time. And if you keep looking at it this way unemployment is an opportunity then youll do well because, frankly, optimists get better jobs.

This is where creating your own resume or using a resume template comes in.A resume is the beginning of a person's job search. If the resume is not done properly or if it is not designed correctly, it can cause a person to be rejected from a job. It will also cause a person to get rejected from jobs for a job offer that they may get in the future. First, there is the type of resume that they are going to have to create. Different resumes have different requirements when it comes to the type of information that should be included on the resume. One example of a resume that is a little more involved is a military resume because the requirements are different than most resumes. There are different military requirements when it comes to the format of the resume. For example, a military resume will need to have several different types of formatting. The most common format used for a military resume is the bullet points format. The bullet points format is one that is used in a lot of military resumes, so it is one that should be considered when designing a resume or template. The other type of resume needs to be a basic paragraph format. Most resumes are going to be basic paragraphs because it is the one that is most common and that is going to be the one that is easy to read. The other types of formats are the long paragraph format and the table of contents format.Once a person has created their resume or template, they will then need to consider how to add a cover letter to it. A cover letter is an important part of a resume or template because it is used to introduce a person to the company that is requesting the resume or template. A cover letter also shows a person that the person is looking for a job opportunity and this is important to the hiring process.Creating a resume or template with a resume template is g oing to be a great way to be able to get the attention of a potential employer. They are going to be able to see that a person knows what they are doing and that they know what they are getting into when they get in the door.
